Following the recent passing of the Early Childhood Education and Care (Strengthening Regulation of Early Childhood Education) Bill 2025 , new powers and enforcement mechanisms have been introduced to address persistent non-compliance and raise the bar across the sector. In response, the Regulatory Operations Branch, compliance coordination function is expanding. The key duties of the position include Reporting to the Assistant Director, the APS Level 5 Compliance Coordination Officer will be responsible for managing a high volume of referrals, supporting enforcement actions, and maintaining quality assurance across compliance processes. These roles are central to maintaining the integrity of the department's regulatory operations ensuring timely, risk-based responses to non-compliance in the child care sector with the Family Assistance Law. In this role, your responsibilities will include the following: Triaging incoming referrals and identifying services with prolonged non-compliance against the Family Assistance Law and National Quality Standards. Allocating cases to appropriate investigation, audit, or enforcement teams based on risk indicators such as CCS claiming patterns, audit history, sanctions, and complaints. Monitoring case progress and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution. Supporting the administration of enforcement actions, including infringement payments, cancellations, and updates to registers and systems. Assisting with reporting and documentation, including briefings, correspondence, and record keeping. Engaging with internal stakeholders to provide advice and contribute to consistent decision-making aligned with departmental policy. Supporting continuous improvement of systems and processes that underpin the branch's strategic direction. Reporting to the Assistant Director, the APS Level 6 Senior Compliance Coordination Officer will be responsible for triaging referrals, managing case allocations, and supporting the coordination of compliance investigations. These roles are central to maintaining the integrity of the department's regulatory operations and ensuring timely, risk-based responses to non-compliance in the child care sector with the Family Assistance Law. In this role, your responsibilities will include the following: Researching, interpreting, and applying legislation and policy to ensure decisions comply with relevant Acts, delegations, departmental policies, and the Australian Government Investigation Standards. Triaging and assessing incoming referrals, including identifying services with prolonged non-compliance against the National Quality Standards. Allocating cases to appropriate investigation, audit, or enforcement teams based on risk indicators such as CCS claiming patterns, audit history, sanctions, and complaints. Analysing data and information to identify risks, threats, or trends in alleged non-compliance to inform recommendations. Monitoring and tracking case progress to ensure timely resolution and follow-up. Conducting quality assurance of case documentation and enforcement actions, including infringement payments, cancellations, and updates to enforcement registers and intelligence systems. Supporting high-volume reporting requirements, including briefings, correspondence, record keeping, and follow-up letters. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to provide advice on compliance risks and contribute to strategic coordination. Supporting the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems and processes aligned with the branch's strategic direction. Reporting to the Director, the Executive Level 1 Assistant Director will lead a small, high-performing team playing a critical role in ensuring timely, risk-based responses to non-compliance, driving continuous improvement, and supporting strategic coordination across the Regulatory Operations Branch. In this role, your responsibilities will include the following: Maintaining expert knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and reporting requirements, including the Australian Government Investigation Standards, quality assurance procedures, and best practice models for regulatory enforcement. Leading the analysis of data and information to identify risks, threats, and trends in alleged non-compliance, and informing recommendations for investigation and enforcement. Contributing to strategies that promote strong regulatory compliance across the child care sector, supporting payment accuracy and program integrity. Overseeing the triage and allocation of referrals to appropriate investigation, audit, or enforcement teams, ensuring consistency and alignment with departmental priorities. Actively engaging in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of systems and processes that support the branch's strategic direction. Building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide expert advice on non-compliance risks and regulatory responses. Providing mentoring, guidance, and support to geographically dispersed operational staff, fostering capability and consistency across the team.
